Traditionally there were two techniques of gilding, water and oil, coexisting in the same universe being applied according to the type of object to decorate and its purpose.

- Water gilding: Applying gold leaf on a wooden surface previously prepared, this preparation went through three main phases, gluing, pairing and decor.

- Oil gilding: Technique that in all resembles the previous level of preparation of the surface to gold, changing only the type of adhesive used for fixing of gold leaf. This change will cause a reduction of the decorative treatment gold after application only to the application of finishing, not allowing any decorative scheme as the water gilding technique  allows.
